Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi plans to make an entry to Electric Vehicles (EV) segment in India by next year. According to the Chinese company’s filing with Registrar of Companies (RoC), it can sell any electric vehicles throughout India.
This implies Beijing-based company’s plan to introduce its EV in India. Moreover, Xiaomi plans to expand its business to payments bank, leasing and financing, virtual mobile networking operations and payment gateway.
Next year, Xiaomi will launch its laptops, computer accessories, lifestyle products and gaming consoles in India.
This is part of the company’s strategy to maintain its steady growth in Indian market.
Xiaomi has already launched electric vehicles in China, including foldable and portable bikes. It also sells televisions, washing machines, refrigerators, air-conditioners and vacuum cleaners in Chinese market.
“We have expressed our interest to bring several of our non-smartphone products to India multiple times, but only after ensuring that we have picked the right product and customised it to India’s needs,” said the spokesman of Xiaomi India.
The eco-friendly bikes from Xiaomi will have great potential in Indian cities that are already choking in pollution, said experts.
Xiaomi’s entry to non-smartphone sector implies the company’s plan to lead the Indian market where most of the customers look for best products and cheaper prices.
