As fake news spread massively among WhatsApp users in India, which often leads to confusions and misinformation, WhatsApp is lacing up to curb the flow of fake information on its platform.
WhatsApp CEO Chris Daniel will be visiting India this week and will probably meet IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad to discuss the issues of fake news on the messenger app. Chris will also meet business and government officials during his visit. According to reports, the information ministry will ask WhatsApp to set-up an office in India for launching its payment platform and to address the issue of traceability of messages.
WhatsApp top executives and COO Mathew Idema recently held meeting with IT secretary and other Indian government representatives to discuss various steps that could be adopted to tackle fake news in India. If these discussions bear the fruit, it would bring an end to fake news issues on WhatsApp.
