If you have a dream, you have to give whatever it takes to turn it into fruition. Ameya Mathew, hailing from Trivandrum, found her calling in acting. A master’s degree holder in English Literature, she wanted to pursue higher studies in Canada, but the plan didn’t work out.
Ameya rolled up her sleeves to take the plunge into the mesmerising world of cinema. Her journey wasn’t a piece of cake. After having worked in a handful of Malayalam and Tamil movies, she got her big break when she appeared in one of Karikku‘s (A massively Popular Malayalam YouTube Channel) episodes.
“I wanted to do some performance-oriented roles. My patience and prayers gave me the ‘Karikku’ episode. I owe all the credits to Karikku director Nikhil Sir for considering me and believing in me. That was the turning point in my life,” says Ameya. We catch up with Ameya to talk about different aspects of her life.
What inspires you?
My Father is my biggest inspiration. Though he’s no more with me, I miss him every single day. He had taught me to be comfortable with who I am, to learn to make good decisions, to always be able to laugh at myself and to trust my gut. He had supported me; believing in my dreams. He had sacrificed so much to bring me up. He was my shoulder to lean on.
What is your tip to the beginners?
My tip to all those who wish to aspire to be in this industry would be : ‘Follow your dreams, believe in yourself and never give up.’
What book influenced you in your life?
My favourite book or the book I’m never tired of reading is Shashi Deshpande’s novel ‘ That Long Silence’. The novel is about the protagonist’s hopes, fears, aspirations, frustrations and later triumph in life.
What are you grateful for?
I’m grateful to God for giving me this life. God gave me courage and faith in myself when I had no ray of hope. He’s always there when you think no one else is.
How do you unwind?
When I feel stressed or feel like I need a break from everything, I unwind myself by travelling to unknown destinations with my close friends. I enjoy travelling to places I’ve never been to, which brings me peace and happiness.
