Indian ecommerce giant Flipkart is all set to launch smartphone under its Billion brand. This is one of the major strategies of the company to remain in top spot next year.
This initiative will be helmed by the company’s co-founder Sachin Bansal. He has been planning to capitalize on Flipkart’s Billion brand which offers budget smartphones to customers.
The new phone called Billion Capture Plus will be on sale via Flipkart from November 15. According to Flipkart, the new smartphone is exclusively made for Indian customers. The phone runs on Android and will be available in two versions with different storage capacities.
The price will be ₹10,999 for 32GB model and ₹12,999 for its 64GB variant. The dual sim phone comes with a 5.2 display, 13MP dual rear camera, 5MP front camera, 4GB RAM and 4G Volte support.
“Flipkart’s Billion Capture Plus is completely Indian. The phone has been designed, manufactured and tested in India”, said Hrishikesh Thite, Flipkart’s Billion category head.
Flipkart might partner with competing brands such as Xiaomi, Vivo, Samsung and Oppo to ensure seamless initial sale of its handset, said experts.
Flipkart’s entry to smartphone business is its first step towards launching a range of products under the Billion brand. Sachin Bansal said Flipkart will enter large appliances segment with the Billion brand over the coming days.
Flipkart has already set up a separate team for Billion brand, which includes marketing managers, sales executives,product experts and engineers. The company also aims higher profit by selling its own products.
