Welcome to #eoindia #startupstories Episode 20 – TaG.
Each week we will ask an Indian entrepreneur 11 questions so that we can all be inspired by their stories.
Have you ever been stuck when it comes to buying a present for your friends or family?
This weeks #startupstory aims to solve that dilemma with personalised gifts. Let us introduce Take a Gift (@tag_take_a_gift_).
TaG – Take a Gift is an online handmade and customized gifting startup. @krupali03 and@panchalriddhi are the co-founders of TaG. They have been running for over a year, making their personalised gifts. Currently they operate only through Instagram andFacebook.
Their USP is handmade and customisation because handmade gifts are made with lot of effort, love, care, feelings, creativity and uniqueness. All gifts are totally customized (i.e the size, colour, uniqueness) as per the customers requirement. They also take orders for decoration requirement at weddings, engagement, birthday parties and different events.
Lets say Hi and learn about their story… Krupali and Riddhi, Welcome to #eoindia.
1) How did you get your idea to this business?
We have always had passion for art and craft. We used to make handmade gifts for our family and friends. Gradually we understood people are able to connect to our gifts and were liking them. This is how we started discussing the idea of gifting and this passion took a beautiful form of TaG at the age of 19.
2) Why is “now” a good time for this idea to exist?
In today’s hectic life people have lost the value of those small relations, emotions.
The purpose of TaG is to spread happiness through our handmade and customized gifts. Our gifts will help people express those feelings which words fail to do. Gifting is the selfless act of simply showing someone how much we care about them and want to make them happy.
3) What was the reaction of your family when you first decided to become an entrepreneur?
Like most families, even our family was concerned about our future because at a very young age we started with TaG.
Looking at our efforts and the dedication for TaG they have been very supportive now
4) What was your biggest failure in business and what have you learned from it?
It’s just been over a year so we haven’t faced any big failure as such but we have learnt that if you’re willing to do something and have the belief in yourself then you can surely achieve it.
5) What is your biggest obstacle in the next 12 months and how will you overcome it?
We want to increase our customer base all over India through online as well as offline promotion. We need more people in our team so that our work is bifurcated and we can expand fast because right now we’re only 2 of us handling all the operations.
6) What habits contribute to your success?
We’re still a baby crawling in the path of success. If we keep working with the same amount of determination and productive time utilization we see ourselves walking in the near future.
7) If you had this opportunity to start this business what would you do differently ?
It’s just been a year since we started but still if given a chance we would have TAGged one product line instead of TAGging all together. We would have concentrated on sales, marketing, productivity equally rather than procrastinating.
8) What is your favourite inspirational book?
9) What is your favourite inspirational quote?
“If you can imagine it, you can do it” – Krupali.
“Believe in yourself and everything is possible.” – Riddhi
10) Where do you find inspiration?
We make a gift with a lot of effort and emotion. So when we receive a feedback from a customer saying “it brought tears to their eyes looking at the gift” this is the inspiration which keeps us going ahead and doing better and better.
11) What advice would you give to someone starting out?
Every success story has these things in common – dedication, patience, positivity and hardwork.
All of us know this is the key for success but when it comes to implementation is far more difficult. Watching or reading an inspiring story is like a fairytale but the reality is totally different. Our advice is just that prepare yourself for the worst because there will time when everything goes low but you need to have patience and give your 100%.
