They persuaded her to sell handmade silk jewellery through social media platforms.  The idea worked! That’s how she founded Cloud 7 Accessories and built it into a reputed handmade jewellery brand.

But her entrepreneurial journey was not a piece of cake. What it takes to stand out from other players as a jewellery brand? Let’s find out as Sanjana shares her story.

1) How did you get your idea for this business?

EOI Startup Stories - Sanjana

It actually started as a hobby which got converted into business.  The thought of starting the business was running in my mind ,but I wasn’t sure about it.

Once I just came across a page on Instagram and saw some products being sold there and also one of my friends friend put in a thought to me of selling these jewellery online. So I just made a few designs of earrings and put it up on my Instagram page and volla the journey got started.

2) Why is “now” a good time for this idea to exist?

Oh, I really feel that “now” is a good time for this idea to exist because, people nowadays like to have handmade stuff which can be customized according to one’s need. It is also amazing to see that people are loving the idea of handmade jewellery.

Usually people have this mindset that handmade products are costly. But here at our store ,we have pocket friendly prices which can be affordable to everyone and anyone.

3) What was the reaction from your family when you first decided to become an entrepreneur?

Firstly my family was very surprised at the idea of even making handmade jewellery and that to silk thread.  When i told my family about starting such business they were really shocked.

Shocked would be an understatement.  They couldn’t believe that I was wanting to do such thing. It had risk factor, because it involved money ,time and energy.

But my family supported me in this new journey of mine and CLOUD 7 Accessories got on board. If not them , I would have never been able to even attempt of doing such a thing of starting my own business and being an entrepreneur. And the biggest thing my family said that give your 100% in what you do.

4) What was your biggest mistake in business and what did you learn from it?

Initially I was only sharing my work on Instagram with not so correct hashtags. That was my mistake which I had done. But after a few months I got associated with groups on WhatsApp seller groups. Also on Instagram I got my hashtags rectified.

5) What is your biggest obstacle in the next 12 months and how will you overcome it?

The  requirement of clients keep changing and also the designs of jewellery. Making new designs and keeping up to the client requirements would be my priority. I would also want to reach out to more people as possible.

6)What habits contribute to your success?

Patience is a BIG key to success.  No business gets successful if you have no patience. My dad taught me this. It’s like his guru mantra. He says, any business you do, one should have patience, because it takes time for your business to reach out to people. Also family support has a big role in your business.

7) If you had the opportunity to start this business again what would you do differently?

I would definitely have a website made of my products.  Also would like to give a free product with all the orders I dispatch.

8) What is your favourite inspirational quote?

The past cannot be changed. The future is yet in your power.

9) What is your favourite book?

Chetan Bhagat’s 2 States.

10) What advice would you give to someone starting out?

Be you. Keep it original.
