Online marketplace Amazon has introduced a monthly plan of ₹129 for Prime to draw more subscribers. For the past two years, since its introduction here, Amazon Prime membership was only available at a revised price of ₹ 999 annually.
The new monthly plan is for specially designed for customers who are reluctant to buy annual membership for a bigger price. Through this move, Amazon aims to attract more customers to its platform. The Prime members of Amazon enjoys a lot of benefits including free and faster delivery along with Prime Music and Video services.
Since the launch of Amazon Prime in India, the company witnessed a strong adoption of Prime across tier-2 and tier-3 cities and it now serves customers across 400 cities and towns.
According to Amazon India director and head of Prime Akshay Sahi, the monthly plans help Prime reach a wider population. There are over 100 million Prime members for Amazon across the globe. Amassing more Prime members on its platform is a strategy adopted by Amazon to take on rival, Flipkart.
