Internet companies across India are making Aadhaar, the 12 digit unique identification number, compulsory to avail their services. Companies like Amazon have sought Aadhaar credentials of the customers avail their services further. The move is aimed at tracking lost packages.
According to Amazon, it is necessary to furnish Aadhaar details to authenticate customer identity.
“We ask customers to submit a government–certified ID. We understand Aadhaar is the most widely held. So it is our preferred one,” said an Amazon India spokesperson
Bangalore based car rental platform Zoomcar made Aadhaar mandatory to book cars. The company won’t accept bookings without presenting Aadhar as proof of identity.
“Aadhaar has the best API integration, the latest documents are getting connected with bank accounts. If you have an Aadhaar card, you have the KYC (know your customer) sorted,” said a Zoomcar spokesperson.
Moreover, Paytm has requested its users to furnish Aadhaar details by the end of this year. Cab renting platforms Uber and OLA are also planning to integrate their user database with Aadhaar credentials.
